Rescue Runway

A History of Fashion and Compassion

Humane Society of Fremont County logoRescue Runway began as a unique idea - to blend the thrill of a fashion event with a heartfelt cause. Doug Rae, the Executive Director of the Humane Society of Fremont County, first developed a "Rescue Runway" in Rhode Island before bringing the concept to Colorado in 2016. Over the years, we've grown into the shelter's largest fundraiser, a much-anticipated event marked on every Fremont County resident's calendar.

Every dollar raised at our event goes directly towards animal medical expenses at the Humane Society of Fremont County. These funds are critical to our mission - to provide care and treatment to every sick or injured animal that comes our way. In the past, our fundraiser has brought in over $30,000 annually, but with our ambitions flying high, we're aiming for a record-breaking $50,000+ this year!

For 2025, we're excited to introduce "Margaritas & Mutts: Runway Edition" - a fresh daytime format at the beautiful White Water Bar & Grill. Each year, we strive to add something new and exciting to our event, always aiming to make it bigger and better. We're committed to ensuring that our fundraiser never becomes "the same song and dance", but instead a platform of continuous innovation and inspiration.

Behind The Scenes

At the heart of our event are the passionate individuals who make it happen. From Doug Rae's inspiring leadership to the tireless volunteers who bring our event to life, we're fortunate to have a team committed to making a difference in the lives of animals. And, of course, we're ever thankful to our generous sponsors, partners, and attendees who make our mission possible.

Our runway show continues to showcase the beautiful bond between our alumni dogs and the models who accompany them. The outdoor setting of White Water Bar & Grill creates a stunning backdrop that highlights both fashion and our canine companions, creating a spectacle that beautifully intertwines style, compassion, and animal welfare.

I think the Humane Society of Fremont County has a group of very dedicated individuals who love their job. They give you advice and are knowledgeable about their jobs. I had a chip put on my dog there and years later they were able to pull up my dog's information as to what I needed. They informed me about important details as to what needed done for my circumstances. Very well recommended.

Outstanding experience here for sure! I originally came in looking for a specific dog from the website, upon meeting that dog, it was clear that we were not a good fit together, but Bre (who was the one helping me) took the time to get to know our situation, and said "hang on, there's someone you should meet" then she brought my boy, Drax, and he instantly jumped up in my arms and gave me a hug. Now, 2 years later, our Drax is still a perfect fit for my son and I, he loves to snuggle, wrestle, and go for rides in the car. Can't thank the Humane Society of Fremont County, and Bre enough.

Good people doing good for animals. The Humane Society of Fremont County is serving the community well. The management is top-notch and most of the people working there seem to be friendly and knowledgeable. A great place to volunteer time for the betterment of the dog and cat community in which we live.
